Do you like listening to gloomy and eerie songs with a touch of unconventional musicianship? Look no further, Radiohead is one of the kings of innovation when it comes to musical experimentation. The band led by Thom Yorke on vocals/piano/guitars, Collin Greenwood on bass/synths, Phil Selway on drums, John Greenwood on guitars/keyboards/miscellaneous instruments, and Ed O'Brien on guitars/back vocals.

The members of this band draw inspiration from some of the best musicians and bands of the past like rock legends Queen, early alternative rock/punk rock icons Joy Division, R.E.M., The Smiths, Sonic Youth, and Pixies, which proved to be very influential to the mood of their songs. They also cited music icons Miles Davis, The Beatles and The Beach Boys as some of their earlier influences. Although unusual, the band also stated that DJ Shadow was very influential to the creation of their monumental album OK Computer which was released in the 90's.

In general, the music and lyrics that the band creates usually comes from Yorke, who acts as the mastermind of the majority of the band's songs. However, every band member has his own part in the overall creative process. Yorke does not claim anything, as he respects the opinions and suggestions of his band mates.

Their first albums are inclined on a simple band setup, wherein the usual instruments are the only sounds that you will hear (guitars, drums, bass, and keyboards). By the time that they released Kid A and Amnesiac, they suddenly shifted to a different musical style. They injected ambient electronic sounds and synthesizers into their music which shows how flexible and creative the band really is. Band members switch from instrument to instrument depending on the song that they play.

The most significant characteristics of Radiohead's music are the uniqueness of their sound and the vocal style of Thom Yorke. His utilization of falsettos, vibrato, and sustain on his voice is simply remarkable. According to many music magazines and critics, Yorke is one of a kind and deserves to be on the list of the greatest singers of all time. Moreover, his songwriting skill is also noteworthy. With lyrics that tackle issues and situations like death, depression, anger, betrayal, isolation, and life in general, he is undoubtedly one of the most artistic and renowned writers of this generation.

There is more music to Radiohead after their song 'Creep.' Most of their greatest compositions are on the albums OK Computer, Kid A, and Insomniac. Give it a try and experience why Radiohead is one of the best bands in the world.
